Architecture

Øresund is surrounded by an open and low-lying land. The layout and coherent design of the entire link is based upon the respect for the environment as well as on simple and rational Nordic traditions.

The adopted alignment is the result of a careful combination of aesthetic, environmental and technical considerations.

In respect of the surrounding landscape, the tunnel portals are fully recessed in the terrain. The tunnel has bright, white walls and a double, continuous row of lightning. Studies with light and colour aim at improving the experience of motorists driving through the tunnel.

The bridge is in two levels with good views for users. The height of the superstructure truss leads naturally to a longer span which gives the bridge an elegant appearance, particularly in the sections close to the high bridge.

Since the bridge is the landmark of the Øresund Link, the emphasis is on grandeur, simplicity and an easily understood structure. A simple and strong bridge girder, high and strong pylons towers and a cable pattern with a clean and balanced appearance.
