Special elements

In addition to the standard elements, the immersed tunnel will also have a total of 10 special elements that are installed at regular intervals (approximately every 1.8 km) between the standard elements.
w

The special elements are deeper (approx. 13 instead of approx. 9 m) and wider (approx. 45 instead of approx. 42 m) than the standard elements and also have a lay-by for maintenance and rescue personnel as well as another level for equipment rooms above rail and road level.

Additional supply level

This lower level provide space for the necessary utility facilities for the mechanical and electrical tunnel operating systems – e.g. for transformers – and simultaneously makes it possible to access all areas of the tunnel for maintenance work with only minimal impact on traffic. The lower level is accessed from the western road tube.
