Construction estimate

The construction estimate for an immersed tunnel is 5.5 billion EUR (2008 prices).

In November 2010, Femern A/S published two construction estimates based upon conceptual designs, one for a cable-stayed bridge and one for an immersed tunnel. In February 2011, it was decided that the immersed tunnel was the preferred technical solution.

In June 2011, the Danish Parliament gave its approval for the construction estimate of November 2010 of 5.1 billion EUR for the immersed tunnel to be increased by 0.4 billion EUR to 5.5 billion EUR. The increase occurred as a result of a decision to locate the production facilities for the tunnel elements in Rødbyhavn and not in Poland as assumed in the estimate of November 2010.

It is planned that the bill for the Construction Act will be brought before the Danish Parliament during the 2013-2014 parliamentary year, and will include the construction budget for the preferred technical solution.
