As part of the approval process for the forthcoming fixed link across Fehmarnbelt, Femern A/S is conducting a comprehensive environment investigation programme. The programme has now been sent for consultation to ensure that all relevant investigations will be carried out in the best possible scientific way. The so-called Scoping Report consultancy process will be undertaken from 21 June, 2010 to 6 September, 2010.

On 3 June, the Danish Parliament's Finance Committee agreed to increase the budget for planning the coast-to-coast section of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link. The budget is being increased by DKK 671 million to DKK 1,881 million, but there is no change to the estimated budget for the whole project.

Safety has to be first class during the installation as well as the operation of the coming fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt. Therefore, Femern A/S has started working on developing a safety concept

Femern A/S published its second newsletter on 12 October 2009, which details all the current project developments.

In June 2009 Femern A/S opened an Info Centre on the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link in Burg on Fehmarn. Here, visitors can inform themselves on different aspects of the project on three days per week.

In February 2009, Femern A/S distributed a brochure about the project to a number of stakeholders and other interested parties, including 90,000 households in Eastern Ostholstein and 65,000 in southern Denmark.

In the period from 2008 to 2012, a series of studies will be carried out, including precise examination of the geotechnical conditions in and around the Fehmarnbelt.
