Opening of the Info Centre on the Fixed Link across Fehmarnbelt in Burg

Date: 14.07.2009
From the end of June onwards, everyone with an interest in the planned fixed link across Fehmarnbelt has been able to learn out about current developments at the Info Centre in Burg, which is open three days a week. The Info Centre includes an exhibition on the fixed link.

The local couple Mr and Mrs Ketels are available to help visitors. Bernhard Ketels and his wife Ingegärd, who have lived on the island of Femern for 30 years, are the main point of contact for their fellow citizens and pass on their questions and suggestions to Femern A/S.

The Info Centre was formally inaugurated on 24 June with an information event organised in cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Science, Economic Affairs and Transport. Representatives of Femern A/S, together with the Transport Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Dr. Jörn Biel, the District Chief Executive of Ostholstein Reinhard Sager and the Mayor of the town of Femahrn, Otto-Uwe Schmiedt, took this opportunity to invite interested parties, supporters and critics of the project to an open debate and to inform them of the current status of the planning and preliminary review process.

Members of the "Action Alliance against a fixed link across Fehmarnbelt" used the opening of the Info Centre to stage a counter-demonstration in front of the building. Femern A/S explicitly offered them, as well as all the other residents of Femahrn, a constructive dialogue about the next stages of planning and constructing the link and committed itself to making the decision process as transparent as possible.
