Bridge

At the moment, Femern A/S investigates several bridge types. All types of bridges investigated have different widths in the main span bridge, i.e. in the place where the ships will pass under the bridge. The exact design of a possible bridge will only be decided upon after completion of numerous studies concerning the environment and navitational safety.

An example of one option being studied – consisting of a main bridge, two approach bridges and two ramps – might look like this:

In this example, the main bridge would be a multi-segment cable-stayed bridge, with three main spans of 724 m each and two side span arrangements of 518 m each, yielding a total length of 3,208 m. The two approach bridges would have a length of 6,000 m (in the south) and 9,360 m (in the north).
