Environmental investigations

Many of the environmental investigations are carried out at sea and for that reason a dedicated vessel is sailing daily expeditions on Fehmarnbelt.

The vessel JHC Miljø is equipped with advanced instruments for measuring current, salt, temperature etc. in the sea. The vessel is also equipped with a number of samplers and nets for biological investigations.

miljøskib-i-Rødbyhavn-(1).jpg  The JHC Miljø provides service to more than 35 automatic stations placed in the sea. Stations placed in the planned alignment of the fixed link and in the Mecklenburg Bay are measuring the physical properties of the water, inter alia the oxygen content, salinity and temperature. These buoys reach over 25 meters into the sea and collect data on every second meter.

Other stations that are situated close to the shores of the Fehmarnbelt are measuring the sediment concentration in the water. Further stations are recording the noises made by the harbour porpoises in the Fehmarnbelt.

The collected data are needed for the Environmental Impact Assessment and for the planning of the future construction works at sea.

The investigations started at the end of 2008 and will be ongoing for two years.
