This secion is designed to give an insight into the demands posed by a major construction project such as the Fehmarnbelt Link. It is hoped that this will generate further interest in the upcoming construction work and in attracting one of the larger element production sites.
Regardless of whether the choice is for a tunnel or bridge solution, at least three main contracts are likely to be offered for tender. As a result, several production sites will have to be established. Decisions regarding the number and location of the production sites are the responsibility of the contractors.
This section covers theoretical layouts of production sites for the large elements, such as bridge piers, caissons or tunnel elements. Figures, text and drawings are for illustrative purposes only and should not be regarded as representative of the actual production process or the final production facilities for the Fehmarnbelt project. The content neither expresses nor affects the final choice of alignment or the design of a bridge or tunnel.
Besides the production facilities that may be located at some distance from the alignment, some worksites and working harbours will have to be located near the alignment and the approach and ramp areas on land.
Basis for this section is the report ‘Outline of possible production sites’. You can find a PDF-version here. The report has been prepared on the basis of the experiences from similar major construction projects around the world, including the Øresund and Great Belt projects.
