The nearer the better

The production sites’ proximity to the bridge or tunnel alignment is of great importance. The closer the site is to the alignment, the lower the risk and cost of transportation.

The nearer the better

Work harbours and finishing work sites as well as the ramp areas must be placed adjacent to the alignment (layout thereof is not part of this report but is described in the document “Outline of possible construction sites – Puttgarden and Rødbyhavn”, February 2010).

The caisson and pier shaft production sites for the approach bridges and the assembly site for the bridge superstructure are best situated within an 80 km radius.

The caisson production for the high bridge and production facilities of the tunnel elements are best situated within a 120 km radius from the alignment. Location further away may be possible if economically competitive.

The steel superstructure for a bridge can be constructed anywhere in the world. If the production takes place far from the bridge location, smaller sections will probably be welded together and the road deck will be cast in a production site within a 120 km radius.
