After adoption of the state treaty in both countries, in 2009, planning and preliminary studies of the construction of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link have commenced.

Commission of Femern A/S with the organisation of preparations, investigations and project planning related to the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, as well as with all other measures necessary for construction. |
18 June 2009 |
Acceptance of the law ratifying the state treaty by the German Bundestag. |
10 July 2009 |
Acceptance of the law ratifying the state treaty by the German Bundesrat. |
Autumn 2009 |
Completion of the ratification process in both countries. |
By 2012 |
Detailed planning and performance of the necessary environmental investigations. Consultation on the environmental impact study and approval of the project by all relevant authorities. |
2012 |
Anticipated presentation of a construction law in the Danish Parliament. By passing this construction law, the Danish Parliament will determine the construction design and conditions under which the construction of the coast-to-coast segment should take place. |
2013 – 2018 |
Construction phase for the coast-to-coast segment. |
