Construction estimate

An initial estimate of construction costs was made in 1999.

Since the first estimation of costs, the construction costs have been updated, based upon, amongst a number of factors, experience of other major bridge and tunnel projects (including the Great Belt, opened in 1998, and the Øresund, opened in 2000).

According to the construction cost estimates (before completion of the environmental impact study), a cable-stayed bridge will cost about 4.5 billion Euro and an immersed tunnel about 5.5 billion Euro (prices as of 2008). The construction cost planning will take place after completion of the required environmental impact study and will be part of the proposed construction law that the Danish Parliament will process in 2012.

Who will bear the costs?

The users, not taxpayers, will pay for the coast-to-coast link. It will take ca. 30 years to pay back the debt.
