To be able to use the fixed link efficiently, it will be necessary to extend the German and Danish rail and motorway networks.

According to the treaty signed on 3 September 2008 by the Ministers of Transport of both countries, the hinterland infrastructure will be planned and financed by each country independently. This means that the coast-to-coast segment and the hinterland infrastructure are to be seen as separate projects. However, Denmark reserves the right to finance the Danish hinterland infrastructure from funds for the coast-to-coast segment.

According to the agreement, the toll station will be located in Denmark.
