Danish landworks

In Denmark, the connections to the rail and road network will be improved prior to the opening of the coast-to-coast segment.

The following has been agreed upon in the state treaty:

        •  Electrification of the Ringsted–Rødbyhavn rail segment.

        •  Expansion of the rail stretches from Vordingborg to the Masnedø
and from Orehoved to Rødbyhavn to two tracks. The rail connection
across the Storstrøm will remain a single-track connection.

        •  Additional necessary expansion and the required environmental
optimisation of the existing E 47 motorway between Rødbyhavn
            and Sakskøbing.

The expansion of the E 47 between Rødbyhavn and Sakskøbing to a four-lane motorway was already completed at the end of 2007.

The construction costs for the hinterland infrastructure on the Danish side are estimated at a total of 8-9 billion DKK (cost as of 2008), including reserves on 50 percent. This project cost estimate was created before the environmental impact study was carried out.

Rail Net Denmark assumes new responsibilities

In May 2010 the responsibility for planning railway projects passed from the Danish Transport Authority to Rail Net Denmark. At the same time, so did several other organisational duties previously under the Transport Authority, including the modernisation and extension of the Ringsted-Rødby route.

Hearing report issued

The hearing report has been issued, describing the "idea phase" in respect of the Danish railway infrastructure. The report examines the 43 submissions that have been received and gives an overview of the issues which the current planning work must resolve.
