Project

German landworks

No later than the opening of the coast-to-coast segment the improvment of connections to the German rail and motorway networks will be completed like this:

The following has been agreed upon in the state treaty:

        •  Expansion of the B 207 (E 47) between Heiligenhafen and Puttgarden
to make it a four-lane federal motorway. The roadway over the
Fehmarnsund Bridge will remain a two-lane road.

        •  Electrification of the Lübeck-Puttgarden rail segment.

        •  Ensuring of sufficient capacity on the single-track rail segment
            between Bad Schwartau and Puttgarden.

No later than seven years after opening of the coast-to-coast segment, expansion of the Bad Schwartau-Puttgarden rail stretch to two tracks will be completed. The rail connection across the Fehmarnsund will remain a single-track connection.

The construction costs for the hinterland infrastructure on the German side are estimated at a total of 840 million Euro (cost as of 2003).

How long will the fixed link be?

The fixed link will be approximately 19 km long and consist of a four-lane motorway and a double track railway line.
