Construction Manager Immersed Tunnel

Role and Responsibilities

The Construction Manager (CM) will be responsible for the construction of the Immersed Tunnel and will play an important role as developer of the production site for tunnel elements.

During the development of the client’s design the CM shall make sure that the interfaces to other contracts are logical and constructable and develop the tender documents with the necessary requirements for constructability.

The CM refers to the Contract Director – Immersed Tunnel. The CM is a member of the Construction Coordination Team and will be working closely with the other construction managers on the project to create a construction team with common knowledge. The CM will be responsible for the further review, comments, witness and approval of the payment milestones during the project.

In the course of developing plans and seeking approval of the overall fixed link project Femern A/S has carried out a conceptual design. Femern has engaged a wide range of external consultants and for the civil work of the tunnel design these consultants include Rambøll, Arup and TEC. This team has made the layout of the overall principles and design for the Immersed Tunnel. The CM will be responsible for the further development of the tender design, the tender documents and be an active partner during the procurement phase.

During the construction phase the CM will be responsible for the review of the method statements and the approval phase of the contractor’s design and further monitor, inspect and audit the progress of the construction work.

Success Criteria

The success criteria are:

  • To develop tender documents with realistic construction requirements and completed tender documents in due time for the bidders
  • To ensure, during the procurement, that the contracts are signed based on reliable method statements and time schedule within the intended risk profile until completion of the works
  • To ensure, during the construction phase, that permits and requirements are fulfilled and that the progress and quality obtained are verified.


Professional Experience

The CM is most likely to have an academic background within the area of structural engineering - civil works.

Furthermore, the CM is expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Profound knowledge of the technical disciplines of structural engineering and civil works
  • Has been involved in large scale site logistic and/or highly industrialised fabrication methods within the construction industry
  • Managerial experience and project management experience (including financial management of large-scale projects)
  • Experience as negotiator
  • Fluent in English, writing and oral
  • Knowledge of Immersed Tunnel Projects or similar large-scale projects
  • Knowledge of Danish and/or German language will be an advantage.
