Femern A/S is inviting international contractors to examine the major projects that are set to arise from the construction of the 18 km tunnel under the Fehmarnbelt between Denmark and Germany.

Femern A/S has presented a technical comparison of the two tunnel variants examined: the immersed tunnel and the bored tunnel. The direct technical comparison between the two variants confirms the immersed tunnel as the preferred structure.

A tunnel will soon link the German island of Fehmarn with Lolland in Denmark thus creating new opportunities for business, culture and tourism on both sides of the Fehmarnbelt. The challenge is to identify such opportunities and exploit them to the best advantage. This is the view of Andreas Steinle, Director of a German institute for future research.
