The Fehmarnbelt region consists of parts of three countries: southern Sweden, eastern Denmark and northern Germany. It comprises the Danish capital region and the region of Zealand as well as Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, the north-west of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Swedish province of Skåne. Just under 10 million people live in this region.
The construction of a Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link brings on a wide range of development potential in the entire region. The new transport infrastructure between Germany and Denmark will pave the way for the development of cross-border business clusters in various sectors. The increased attractiveness of the region will increasingly lead to companies relocating there and thus to the creation of new jobs. The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is also an important step on the way to a cross-border labour market.
