On 1 February 2011, the parties in Denmark supporting the project decided to follow the recommendation of Femern A/S and chose an immersed tunnel under the Fehmarnbelt as the preferred technical solution for the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link. An immersed tunnel is therefore the option on which the further planning and the environmental impact study are based. The plan is for the tunnel to be built from 2015 to 2021.
