The tunnel we plan to build
Updated May 23 2013

With a length of 17.6 km the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link will be the longest combined rail and road tunnel to date. It will be five times the length of the Øresund tunnel between Copenhagen and Malmö and three times the length of the Trans-Bay Tube Bart Tunnel in San Francisco, which is currently the world's longest immersed tunnel.

The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will not only be the longest but also one of safest and most advanced tunnels of its kind. The immersed tunnel will be safer than equivalent motorways or rail sections on land: there will be no oncoming traffic, no approaches and exits and no disruption as a result of bad weather or darkness.

On this page we give you detailed information about the immersed tunnel.
